Filcolana Tilia

Tilia is a luxurious yarn spun from 70% kid mohair and 30% mulberry silk. Technically, Tilia is a fine, combed, and brushed yarn. Mohair fibers combine all the excellent qualities of wool: they are warm and beautiful, and they have the ability to absorb moisture, making mohair garments comfortable to wear. Compared to wool, mohair fibers are more lustrous and slightly more durable. For millennia, silk has been one of the most sought-after fibers; it is lustrous, beautiful, durable, and feels incredibly pleasant against the skin. The combination of silk and airy mohair creates one of the finest and most luxurious yarns a knitter could wish for.

Mohair is obtained from the Angora goat, which originates from Ankara, Turkey—the source of its name. The word "mohair" is of Arabic origin, and the Angora goat is sometimes referred to as the mohair goat. Our Tilia yarn is made from mohair from South African farms.

Mulberry silk is the highest-quality silk available. It is lustrous, and its fibers are uniform in thickness and more durable than other silk fibers. Mulberry silk has been produced in China for centuries and is a significant export product. In ancient times, China was the only silk-producing country.
