Horses have many different meanings in folklore and world mythology; they are symbols of strength, power, courage and loyalty. In Scandinavian mythology, Odin has an eight-legged horse named Slepnir who lives in Asgard and helps warriors find their way to Valhalla after his death.
The inspiration for this pattern comes from a Viking Age rune stone found in Sveden, Gotland. Tjängviden stone is painted in terracotta and white; it depicts Odin with his horse Sleipnir, Valkyrias and a longboat.
The knit has been knitted seamlessly from the top down and the body has narrowed at the waist: I wanted to knit a sweater that would be suitable for riding without sticking to the saddle, and the inspiration for it came from the Icelandic horse that moved to the stable, I visit often.
