Tättähäärä – A Joyfully Colorful Wool Sock Book presents easy tips from one of Finland's most personable craftsmen on how to knit carefree and with enjoyment.

The book progresses slowly towards more challenging crafts. The basic principle of all socks is also the same: the elastic, heels and toe reductions are identical to each other. This is because once you have learned the basics, it is so much easier to unleash the creativity that lives inside us all. The book teaches, among other things, Grandma Alma's heel pattern, which has gained great popularity on social media and has been passed down among the women of the Tättähäärä artisan family for over a hundred years.

The book avoids formal instructions and vocabulary and takes into account those who are afraid of instructions. “Because I lose my mind when reading craft instructions, I have learned to knit through trial and error. For this reason, I have long been presenting proven tips to people like me and getting people to pick up knitting needles, either for the first time or after a long break.” Because there is no single, correct way to knit, learn or teach, the book’s instructions are presented in plain Finnish with texts, pictures and instructional videos that can be found via QR codes.

The Käsityöterapiaa by Tättähäärä social media sites are followed by a large number of people. Marjut Ruusuvaara, who is behind the brand, has spoken a lot in the media about the impact of crafts on stress, concentration difficulties and general well-being, and has especially inspired young people to pick up knitting needles.

The book encourages you to throw yourself into it and improvise – to find your own creative language. “More than anything, I want to be an inspiration and presenter of easy ideas, and encourage people to make their own solutions instead of copying a ready-made model. Insights boost self-esteem, and when the socks are finished, the creator can proudly say: I knitted and designed these myself, even though I thought I couldn’t.”
