Sariola is a place name appearing in the Kalevala and in Finnish and Karelian folk poetry, which often refers to the ice sea located in the north or the Arctic. Sometimes the word also appears as a variant name of Pohjola. In its original form, the word is apparently a loanword from the Uralic languages.
The Sariola sweater is started from the hem, into which an embroidery pattern is knitted. The sleeves are knitted separately and connected to the body. The work has rib eyelets and a high collar. The sleeves are loose so that you can wear another sweater under the shirt and use it like a jacket when you're out and about.
