In the ancient belief of Finns, hiiti were sacred places, groves, graves and cemeteries. With the advent of Christianity, hiidi began to refer to hell or an evil creature, a creature living in the forest.

Hiisi is a thick sweater knitted from top to bottom with an embroidery pattern in the hem. The shirt has a high collar and a slightly longer hem.

When knitting a Hiisi sweater, you can choose whether you want to knit the pattern with the pattern color or the base color, so that the pattern color is the base color of the pattern. So choose between charts 1 and 2. There is also a low version of both charts (M1 and M2) with fewer layers. You can choose a low collar if you want a more fitted shirt or your body proportions are short and large collars will hang under your armpits. The measurements of the sweater are calculated according to the higher curve.

The sweater is quite loose in design. Choose a size that is 10-15 cm larger than your bust measurement. If you want a more fitted shirt, choose a size close to your chest circumference and a low curve (Charts M1 or M2)

Yarn
Istex Alafosslopi (100% Icelandic wool, 100 g = 100 m). In the pictures, the pattern color is Ecru Heather (9972) and the main color is Garden green (1231) and Black sheep Heather (0052) and Ecru Heather (9972).

As a replacement yarn for Alafosslop, another chunky yarn is suitable, such as the Finnish Vuonue's Unelma yarn. The blue sweater in the pictures is knitted with Vuonuen Unelma yarn.

Needles 6 mm circular needles (80–100 cm) for smooth knitting
and for embroidery, 5 mm circular needles (80–100 mm) and double pointed needles (if you don't knit with the magic loop technique) for elastic. Or by handwriting.
